Dr Sophia Zagora specialises in the management of medical retina, inflammatory disorders of the eye, glaucoma and cataract.

Her work includes common causes of visual loss, including macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and retinal vein occlusion.

Training and fellowships

Dr Zagora graduated in Medicine from the University of Sydney with Honours and undertook general ophthalmology training through the Sydney Eye Hospital network.

She pursued sub-specialty training in medical retina, uveitis, glaucoma and cataract in the Professorial Unit at Sydney Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

Hospital and teaching roles

Dr Zagora is a Consultant Eye Surgeon, Staff Specialist at Sydney Eye Hospital and Honorary Uveitis Consultant at Westmead Children’s Hospital, as well as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney.

She is actively involved in ophthalmology registrar training and medical student teaching.

Research and clinical trials

As a clinical academic, Dr Zagora has published widely in peer-reviewed ophthalmic journals and has an ongoing interest in clinical research.

She is actively involved as an investigator in clinical trials to treat uveitis and blinding retinal conditions, and enjoys the challenges of managing complex eye disorders.
